In an attempt to show a client how I could unobtrusively provide
a switch for some embedded Tri-Cluster lights I had placed in
her carved wood mantle piece. I made the simple show and tell
piece shown bellow. I placed a small rare earth magnet under the
base of the carved Buddha and then glued a leather pad on the
bottom, hiding the dinky magnet. Within the block of wood is a 9
volt battery, two LED's with heads exposed and a reed switch.
When the Buddha is placed on the block and rotated to the
correct orientation, the LED's come on. I have always been
fascinated by hidden and secret switches. Unfortunately in this
case, the electrician had already installed a visible toggle switch
in the mantle piece before I could show the alternative.
