The L1 flashlights are designed to host 1 Watt Luxeons without electronics in their heads.
This allows for the Ex series heads to be used as modified "front ends". Below is such a
modified head with a red side emitting Luxeon using the existing reflector for light
distribution:
Details of the modified asembly are shown below. A spring anode pin carries the POS (+)
to the LED. An electrically conductive epoxy was used to ground the NEG (-) lead of the
LED to the aluminium module.
Below is a beam shot series showing the Low level as well as High level output. The target
is about 24" from the flashlight and the same manual exposure was used on both shots.
