Today, 5-12-10, I was warned by a friend and prior to going out in the water, that she had

received a couple jelly fish stings. I had felt some stings in the last couple days myself so I

proceeded with some caution and elected to go out in deeper water and away from where

she had had her encounters.

As luck would have it, I ended up swimming into an area whee I could see a number of the

box jelly fish. I have seen them before and I don't know if I have actually been stung by

them or not. They can put on an incredible bioluminescence show and in some of the pics

below you can see some colored light. A procession of light will move up or down the length

of them changing in color as it moves.

Being mostly clear, it is difficult to get the camera to focus on them and having the

afternoon sun duck behind a cloud didn't help either. On the other hand, the darker water

did enhance the ability to capture some of the light show.

I decided to swim out of the area of these guys as I did feel a couple slight stings but no

idea if it was from them or something else out there. I could see other small eggs or jelly or

whatever the bio blobs were.

As I headed in towards shore, I spotted another type of jelly fish which I have only seen

once before and the other time it was a larger but dead specimen. No idea what this jelly

might be called or if it has a sting to it or not.
