I recently swam in the shallows just south of Olowalu looking for a reported seahorse. I spotted some very small juvenile damsel fish in an orange coral head and swam over to see if I could get a reasonable picture. The silt in the water was not encouraging. In the shadows of the coral, I noticed some ornate fins and realized that a green lion fish was also present.
With a small probe I carry, I would coax the lion fish out into the light and try to capture a shot before it worked its way back into the shadows. I was partially successful but since these are the best shots I have so far of one of these fish, I decided to post them anyway.
The only other place I see these fish with any regularity is in the shallows of sand and algae where I find the seahorses up at north Kaanapali beach.
